Global pandemic while building my photography business!

Wow! 2020, not much needs to be said but I'll elaborate on what's been going on here. Life while on lock-down with 2 small children just as my photography business was starting to grow.

At home with the littles......

I started off strong, daily updates, watching the number of cases and deaths rise on the worldometer website. Most importantly staying home and keeping my girls and my community safe. We were organising the house, making way too many amazon orders in an attempt to keep the kids entertained. Do you remember in the first/second week it was still a little chilly but the sun was out and you could sit in the garden? Bliss. How lovely to have this time at home with the children right!! Then the weather started doing its usual things and the realisation that life was very different set in hard.

Did anyone else have a massive low after two to three weeks? My eldest was asking to see her friends and to go to the park and all the usual fun things we would normally do. Over time she stopped asking. Rather then being relieved I wasn't getting the questions constantly I was utterly heart broken. Such a big life event and they are too small to fully understand. Now at the other end I am grateful for the time with them and our health but I cant wait to cuddle our friends and hear the laughter of my daughters playing with their friends.

Wait! But I was finally seeing growth in my business!

Then BAM! Covid. I was booking clients off the back of a Mothers day special. I was adding great content to my social media and engaging with my audience. Overall I was feeling really positive about the future and earning a living for my two babies. When the pandemic started I was thinking "Will my business survive this or am I going to have to settle for another job?"

I had to stay positive. This wasn't going to last forever. I felt so sad for the people who had booked who now had to wait and I hopped that they were happy to re-book when things opened up again. My clients have been beyond supportive and understanding which has made a huge difference and slowly I am taking their photos. During the pandemic it gave me a little bit of space to plan and think. What kind of business do I want to run? What kind of audience am I aiming for? Reflection has been my main business focus during this time and slowly the excitement of starting a business came back. I can't wait for every single shoot I have this year and every time someone books with me I am so incredibly thankful.
